The Museum

In the National Museum of Scotland you will find artifacts from the age of dinosaurs to the technology of the future, the galleries contain treasures from around the world.
From meteorites to monsters from the deep, the Natural World galleries tell the story of our planet, while the World Cultures gallery link people and possessions across the globe. Follow the story of Scotland from prehistory to the present day in the Scottish galleries, marvel at a spectacular array of over 800 objects in the Window on the World and meet the Scots whose ideas, innovations and leadership took them across the world in the Discoveries gallery.

The National Museum of Scotland is a great place to spend a few hours on a rainy day. If you are there on a sunny day then make sure to check out the roof terrace on the top floor, which gives great views over the city and Edinburgh castle.

The National museum of Scotland also houses The Balcony Café on Level 3 is open daily from 10:00–17:00 for tea, coffee, home baking, cold snacks and hot homemade soup – and great views of the Grand Gallery! Freshly prepared sandwiches, salads are also available.
